Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke’s comedy-drama A Helpful Ghost has gained the Grand Prix within the impartial Critics’ Week sidebar in Cannes.
The movie was chosen by a jury led by president Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and fellow jurors Jihane Bougrine, Josée Deshaies, Yulina Evina Bhara and Daniel Kaluuya.

Set in Thailand, Boonbunchachoke’s debut characteristic centres on a person grieving the lack of his spouse to mud air pollution. He discovers that she has been reincarnated in a vacuum cleaner, which ends up in their bond rekindling.
Written by Boonbunchachoke, the movie is produced by Cattleya Paosrijeroen and Soros Sukhum for Thailand’s 185 Movies and Tsixtysix, in co-production with France’s Haut Les Mains Productions, Germany’s Mayana Movies and Singapore’s Momo Movie Co. Greatest Pal Perpetually handles world gross sales.
Documentary Imago took the jury prize. Directed by Deni Oumar Pitsaev, the movie follows a person who returns to the village the place he was born, simply throughout the Chechen border, the place outdated feuds and household dramas are buried.
It’s produced by Alexandra Melot for France’s Triptyque Movies, in co-production with Belgium’s Want Productions.
The Rising Star award, introduced by the Louis Roederer Basis, went to Pauline Loques’s Nino; with associate awards going to Shih-Ching Tsou’s Left-Handed Lady, produced by Sean Baker, and Guillermo Galoe and Victor Alons-Berbel, the writers of Sleepless Metropolis.
The awards for the Official Choice will likely be handed out within the pageant ceremony on Saturday, Might 24.
