WASHINGTON—A political earthquake hit New York Metropolis on the evening of June 24, as state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani was elected because the Democratic Social gathering’s nominee for mayor within the 2025 normal election.
Mamdani, a 33-year-old self-described democratic socialist, received 56 % of the vote towards former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the scion of the state’s newest political dynasty. Because the Democratic nominee to steer one of many nation’s most Democratic-leaning cities, Mamdani would historically be the favourite to win November’s normal election.
