Inspector General to Probe FAA Oversight of Washington Airspace After Deadly Midair Collision

A federal company mentioned on Aug. 8 that it’ll open an investigation into the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) oversight of the airspace round Ronald Reagan Washington Nationwide Airport after a lethal midair collision between an Military helicopter and a business jet that killed 67 individuals earlier this yr.

The announcement from the Division of Transportation’s (DOT) Workplace of Inspector Basic (OIG) comes one week after the Nationwide Transportation Security Board’s (NTSB) three-day “fact-finding” listening to into the crash, which probed the FAA’s administration of Washington’s airspace, its staffing on the airport’s management tower on Jan. 29 when the accident occurred, and exemptions given to the Military to permit its helicopters on the time to function and not using a key location transmitting expertise—ADS-B Out.
