‘Manas’, ‘Alpha.’ win Venice Giornate degli Autori prizes

Portuguese function Manas and Dutch title Alpha. have received the primary two prizes from the unbiased Giornate degli Autori sidebar in Venice.

Marianna Brennand Fortes’ Manas took the Director’s Award, chosen by The Memento director Joanna Hogg’s jury. Set in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, the movie follows a 13-year-old lady who decides to confront the oppressive system that controls her household and the ladies of their neighborhood.

The movie is backed by Walter Salles and the Dardenne Brothers, and produced by Fortes for Portugal’s Fado Filmes. The movie receives a €20,000 (£16,865) money prize, to be divided equally between Fortes and gross sales agent Bendita Movie Gross sales.

Jan-Willem van Ewijk’s Alpha. took the Europa Cinemas Label for finest European movie within the part, awarded by a jury consisting of European exhibitors Daira Aboliņa, Antonio Costa Valente, Andrea Porta and Jana Trnkova. The jury famous “an actual tour de pressure which we expect audiences will join with.”

LevelK boarded the movie for gross sales earlier this week. It follows a person whose restorative Alpine retreat is disturbed by the arrival of his father, with the pair embarking on a dangerous ski tour.

The movie is produced by Frank Hoeve for the Netherlands’ Baldr Movie, in co-production with Lomotion Stargara.

Rusudan Glurjidze’s Georgian function The Vintage screened this morning (Friday, September 6) in Giornate, two days after its suspension was lifted after an Italian courtroom overturned a decree stopping it from screening within the competition. Glurjidze was current for the screening.
