Netflix’s European offices searched over suspected tax fraud

Places of work of the streaming big have been searched in France and the Netherlands, as a part of an investigation into suspected tax fraud.

The search on Tuesday morning on the workplaces of Netflix’s French subsidiary was a part of a tax fraud investigation, a judicial supply confirmed to Euronews Enterprise after the investigation was first printed by French newspaper Marianne. 

In line with earlier stories, the raids passed off at Netflix’s Paris and Amsterdam workplaces.

“I affirm that searches are being performed right this moment in numerous places, together with on the headquarters of the NETFLIX corporations in France,” the French Nationwide Monetary Prosecutor’s Workplace (PNF) advised Euronews Enterprise, including that “they’re a part of a preliminary investigation opened in November 2022 on fees of cash laundering, aggravated tax fraud and undeclared work.”

The searches had been being carried out by investigators from the Central Workplace for the Combat towards Corruption and Monetary and Tax Offences (OCLCIFF), within the presence of members of the PNF. The PNF is tasked with monitoring down critical financial and monetary crime.

Searches had been additionally performed concurrently on the headquarters of the Netflix corporations in Amsterdam by Dutch magistrates and investigators, accompanied by French magistrates and investigators.

“A prison cooperation motion between the French and Dutch authorities has been coordinated by the European Union Company for Felony Justice Cooperation (Eurojust),” the judicial supply mentioned.

Eurojust advised Euronews that it was supporting the investigations into attainable tax fraud by organising the judicial cooperation between the Dutch and French authorities, together with “the execution of European Investigation Orders for the searches executed right this moment”.

Netflix has not replied instantly to Euronews Enterprise’ request for remark. 

Final August, French newspaper La Lettre reported that the streaming platform’s French subsidiary, Netflix Companies France SAS, has been the topic of a tax audit since 2022, investigating the corporate’s practices between 2019-2021. 

In line with that report, the corporate, till 2021, paid taxes on its French turnover within the Netherlands, to minimise the price.
